Endless Armies Of The Dead
HIGH Building an all-powerful Sniper Tower.
LOW Driving across the map because the game can’t adjust objectives to my base’s location.
WTF Why no update on CLEO, Undead Labs?
HIGH Watching zombies congregate around a beacon that's leading a missile right to them.
LOW Seeing my truck go flying because the physics engine decided the zombies I was plowing through were made of iron and anchored in concrete.
WTF To unlock a character, I have to make another character gravely ill and then execute them?
HIGH Watching an airstrike wipe out dozens of zombies in an orgy of carnage.
LOW Having no idea where my molotov is going to land after I've thrown it.
WTF No, be my guest and charge that juggernaut, Mr. Injured Accountant Armed With A Letter Opener.
HIGH The desperate thrill of running out of bullets and finishing off a zombie horde with a wrench.
LOW All of my hard-gathered resources disappearing because the game was broken for a week.
WTF Ah, a dynamite suicide vest. That'll teach those zombies for tearing my guts out!
It's no secret that State of Decay from Undead Labs has been one of my favorite games this year. Despite a lot of lackluster zombie-themed stuff overcrowding the market, these folks managed to bring an original vision and a brand-new twist to material that most people had already written off. Now that the dust has settled and the game has been out for a while, I figured it was the perfect time to check back in and do a little (har har) post-mortem Q&A on this groundbreaking survival title.
HIGH Setting up my first outposts to establish a (semi) safe zone.
LOW A tough mission rendered unfinishable by a glitch-out.
WTF Why the hell does the game advance when I’m not playing?
Several sites including GameCritics.com were invited to a preview event for the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade title State of Decay. The gathering took place at Undead Labs, located in Seattle Washington. I attended, and was able to spend about four hours with a near-final build of the game. In addition, several of the developers were nearby throughout the day to answer questions.
Before PAX Prime opened its doors, there were a few events happening in Seattle. One such event was a preview for an upcoming XBLA/PC game called State of Decay. The developers, Undead Labs, were kind enough to extend an invitation to see the Alpha build, and I was glad to accept.
