At Least There’s No Tower Climbing
HIGH A duel against a player of equal skill level.
LOW What passes for a single-player campaign.
WTF “You cannot join this session because it is full.” Then why did you put me there, game?!
Ubisoft recently invited GameCritics for an extended session of their upcoming Ghost Recon Wildlands, and I’m happy to say that even after playing it for four hours straight, I still want to hop right back into the world they created. Wildlands dramatically freshens up this long-standing franchise by setting the action in an open- world, fictionalized version of Bolivia.
A few months ago, I played the alpha build of For Honor, Ubisoft’s multiplayer-centric knights-versus-Vikings-versus-samurai dueling game. I mostly loved it for its authentic-looking visual design and deceptively deep combat engine, but had some concerns regarding its accessibility and barrier to mastery.
Ubisoft was recently kind enough to invite GameCritics to take a look at their upcoming knights vs. vikings vs. ninjas brawler For Honor. I was able to get my hands on a few missions from the campaign, and also went a few rounds in the multiplayer arenas. This was my first time ever playing the game, and it clearly showed as For Honor requires more than button mashing to master.
Although the game isn’t out yet (it’s currently due to release in February 2017) Gamecritics was given some “alpha” codes to get an early hands-on. A number of features were disabled and large portions of the content were not available, but this limited slice gave a very good idea of what the full title will deliver… And it’s kind of awesome.
The gang returns after yet another long hiatus to deliver a showstopping discussion of Ubisoft’s latest apology game in The Division, plus we also marvel at the sheer Division (give me a pun award please) among our panelists regarding the most recent Zack Snyder spectacular, Batman v Superman. The BvS segment featured *heavy* spoilers and starts around 1:12. Starring Tim Spaeth, Chi Kong Lui, Brad Gallaway, Dan Weissenberger, and Gene “The Media” Park.

HIGH Getting through a tough mission with a full squad, everyone at their best.
LOW Seeing the same water treatment mission over and over.
WTF No previews of clothing before buying? Come on.
HIGH It appeared to be uncharted territory for a first-person title…
LOW … until I realized it was sort of identical to any other Far Cry title.
WTF Monosyllabic grunts kill the rom-com subplot.
