The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep Preview

Since I didn’t own a PC at the time, I completely missed out on the original Bard’s Tale entries. The last mainline entry hit the market in 1988 — that’s thirty years ago. Now, following their successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, that’s exactly what they’re aiming for with The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep.

Earthlock Review

As The World Turns

HIGH It feels so much like a JRPG from the PS2 era.

LOW Sometimes I want to send it back to the PS2 era.

WTF “Hogbunny” doesn’t sound like the kind of name a species would give itself…

West Of Loathing Review

The Best RPG This Side Of The Pecos

HIGH Shockingly nuanced and detailed, both in writing and game design.

LOW My failure to figure out Stench resistance for far too long.

WTF The game’s obsession with spittoons, but in the best possible way.

Smoke And Sacrifice Review

Swunge-ing In The Deep

HIGH Finally getting to an environment that isn’t swamp or snow.

LOW The first time I fast-traveled at moderate health and got killed by enemies before the world finished loading.

WTF How does this arrangement of swamp, blazing hot coal fields, and bitterly cold snow zones even exist?
