Skyforge Preview

I’ve never been much of a PC player, and as such, never been much of an MMO player either. I always thought I’d give the genre a try once it came to consoles, but that’s been a problematic proposition for many reasons. Still, a few have tried to cross the gap… with mixed results. Nothing has clicked for me yet, although I’ve been checking out Skyforge in pre-release on PS4, and it’s got me interested.

Die Young Preview

Die Young takes players to a mysterious Mediterranean island and sets them loose in a parched playground packed with wild dogs and scythe-wielding executioners. It offers a stellar opening – the main character awakes at the bottom of dry well, almost dead from thirst. A cover is removed from the top of the well, and instructions are dropped down by a mysterious benefactor, or possibly the villain responsible for the dire situation.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Preview

So, I’ve had Mass Effect: Andromeda for the past three or four days. I’m maybe 15 hours into it, give or take. At the moment, the staggered embargo covering the game only allows me to discuss what amounts to a large chunk of the first main mission.

Ghost Recon Wildlands Preview

Ubisoft recently invited GameCritics for an extended session of their upcoming Ghost Recon Wildlands, and I’m happy to say that even after playing it for four hours straight, I still want to hop right back into the world they created. Wildlands dramatically freshens up this long-standing franchise by setting the action in an open- world, fictionalized version of Bolivia.

Paladins Preview

Free-to-play games have boomed to unprecedented levels of quality over the past couple of years. It’s hardly even a gamble that starting one will be time well spent at this point — it’s just a matter of deciding which game is the most worthy of sinking a boatload of hours into. Whether you’re a MOBA fan, an MMO connoisseur, or an FPS master, there’s something out there for everyone, all at the low, low price of … well, free.

Vidar Preview

Vidar is a particularly bleak RPG/Puzzler that puts players in the role of a mysterious stranger who arrives at a village a month into an ongoing tragedy. As if the harsh winter weren’t bad enough, a terrifying beast has been awakened in the caves beneath the town, and one of the villagers is taken each night. It’s up to the player to get to know the townspeople, attempt to solve their problems, and hopefully find the origin of the town’s curse in the catacombs deep below.

Gigantic Preview

As exciting as it is to venture through nature’s toughest terrains in a high-octane action-adventure title or exploring uncharted territories in open-world RPGs, nothing quite thrills like immersing yourself in a competitive multiplayer match. Win or lose, each round is a blood-pumper, and MOBAs have become the poster children of some of the most intense gaming sessions around.

For Honor: December 2016 Preview

Ubisoft was recently kind enough to invite GameCritics to take a look at their upcoming knights vs. vikings vs. ninjas brawler For Honor. I was able to get my hands on a few missions from the campaign, and also went a few rounds in the multiplayer arenas. This was my first time ever playing the game, and it clearly showed as For Honor requires more than button mashing to master.

Divinity: Original Sin II Preview

divsin201

One of the best things a videogame can do is send me off with a sense that I’ve had an experience unique to me — that no one else saw exactly what I saw. Divinity: Original Sin is quite possibly my favorite role-playing game of all time because it’s such a pure embodiment of that idea.

Preview: Monster Hunter Generations

There are few games I love as much as Monster Hunter, and I’m thrilled to say that the next installment being released in the west, Monster Hunter Generations, is coming quite soon – it’s hitting the 3DS on July 15th this year.
