Another week, another online shooter. After an interesting first showing during one of last year’s Nintendo Directs, Hi-Rez Studios’ (Paladins, Smite) latest entry into competitive shooters is finally out in beta phase.
“It definitely looks like an Overwatch rip-off,” my cousin said, when I sent him a text about Rocket Arena.
If It Bleeds, It’s Still Hard To Kill
HIGH Looking into the trees and spotting the camouflaged Predator.
LOW Hearing the Predator stomping around like a doof.
WTF So… who won that match?
HIGH The fight versus Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Sindel’s hot mom energy.
LOW The pricing structure.
WTF Robocop’s appearance in story mode.
It’s a safe bet that anyone who mentions Disintegration will likely mention Halo in the next sentence due to the developer’s history with that franchise, and it’s probably why people are paying attention to this game. Anyone being honest, though, will then mention that this title (at least in the closed beta) has more in common with Overwatch.
Strands Across America
HIGH The online sharing is one of the coolest things ever in a game.
LOW The storytelling is absolute junk.
WTF Hideo Kojima has all the subtlety of a custard pie to the face.
Dig in, baby!
HIGH Dazing an Aragami and the whole squad wrecking its face before it can recover.
LOW The battle system lends itself to plenty of repetition.
WTF Nobody on the ship finds Phym annoying?
