Enlisted is a bold attempt at tackling a bloated genre. The World War II shooter has more entries than I can count, but even bolder than trying to crack this style is that it’s also entering the similarly-crowded online-only field.
A New Red Scare
HIGH It’s still that same satisfying Call of Duty gameplay…
LOW …in a severely half-baked, racist and politically screwed-up package.
WTF Someone thought a dangerously right-wing game was needed in 2020?
Gears Got Political, Huh?
HIGH The Gears series coming to terms with what it is.
LOW Ranked matches remain toxic. Fahz.
WTF Marcus has an unlockable ‘They f***ed up my tomatoes’ voice line
Everyone’s got a game that they’ve played for a long time. Maybe forever. StarCraft II is one of mine. I play other things too, but recently I’ve found myself spending a lot of time in this familiar place. Each time I fire it up, I ask myself the same question: “Why this game? In Search Of Next-Gen Writers
HIGH The on-court mechanics are more player-controlled than ever
LOW Microtransactions are necessary to succeed, even on Rookie.
WTF The finale of “Dawson’s Creek” had more emotional depth
HIGH The minigames are great.
LOW The controls on the Joy-Cons.
WTF That jump detection.
Right Robots, Wrong Mission
HIGH The concept is gold and the art style is fantastic.
LOW Finishing the game missing crewmembers and robots.
WTF Who thought all this grinding was a good idea?
Can’t Help Falling In Love
HIGH An interesting shake-up in the battle royale genre.
LOW That stupid, stupid slide that caused me to curse my poor friend out over party chat.
WTF I had way more falling puns for the tagline.
Another week, another online shooter. After an interesting first showing during one of last year’s Nintendo Directs, Hi-Rez Studios’ (Paladins, Smite) latest entry into competitive shooters is finally out in beta phase.
“It definitely looks like an Overwatch rip-off,” my cousin said, when I sent him a text about Rocket Arena.
