Die Young Preview

Die Young takes players to a mysterious Mediterranean island and sets them loose in a parched playground packed with wild dogs and scythe-wielding executioners. It offers a stellar opening – the main character awakes at the bottom of dry well, almost dead from thirst. A cover is removed from the top of the well, and instructions are dropped down by a mysterious benefactor, or possibly the villain responsible for the dire situation.

HIGH Laughing one moment, shocked the next, and wrapping it all up with a little bow of terror.

LOW “Puzzle game” and “Guess-randomly-because-I-don’t-even-know game” are the same here.

WTF Unexplained naked guys with masks of the Dark Lord?

LOW Spending ten minutes looking for a key because it wasn’t clear that I’d completed a puzzle.

WTF Okay, I’m ready for the big finale! Or… the credits, I guess?


Hot Take, Old Game: Outlast

You know that heavy, serious movie in your Netflix queue that you always mean to watch, but never turn on? You’re just never in the right mood to take on whatever subject matter it features, so instead you binge four episodes of Star Trek back-to-back that end up being twice as long as the serious movie?

Outlast is the videogame version of that serious movie for me.
