There was a lot of debate over the final price of the Nintendo 3DS after its Japanese launch price was announced at ¥30,000. The debate got louder when gamers and journalists realized that equaled about $370. Things get more interesting this week after UBM TechInsights' breakdown of the 3DS' internal hardware that was revealed by Eurogamer. In it we learn that it costs Nintendo about $101 to assemble the 3DS. This means it is selling the new handheld for about $100 more than it might need to.

The Dragon Age II Podcast, Crysis 2, MHFU continues and a Keene book

Crysis 2 Screenshot

An unsolicited copy of Crysis 2 showed up at my door today (always a pleasant surprise when that happens) and I put about an hour into it. I've heard that the multiplayer demo available wasn't too well-received, but I never got around to checking it out and I never played the first Crysis either, so I was coming into the game basically as fresh as possible. First impressions of the campaign? Very positive.

I attended PAX East, checking out upcoming games and meeting great people. That last one was a bit more difficult thanks to the enormous size of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC), but that size made panels much easier to get into and allowed for an expanded and much nicer exposition floor. In case you weren't there, here are some impressions.

Nintendo has finally unveiled details for the upcoming release of their new handheld, the Nintendo 3DS. The company revealed their pricing plans and launch strategy for the system at an event held today in New York City. Reggie Fils-Aime assures us there'll be 30 games available for the 3DS by June, but the one that has horror geeks most intrigued has to be Capcom's Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. The Japanese developer released a new teaser trailer for the game today and my reaction is mostly mixed.

Portal 2 Screenshot

2011 has the potential to be a big year for video games. We're weeks away from seeing the Nintendo 3DS hit retail, motion control technology for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 will continue to mature, and there's going to be plenty of software just waiting to be bought. Before the year really gets into high gear, I'm going to log five predictions here about some events that I think will happen.

Layton v. Wright, Vanquish and Time-Killers

I wasn't too high on Vanquish after trying the demo. I thought it sported some great graphics, but the gameplay just wasn't clicking. I got my hands on a full version of the game and decided to start fresh. Strangely enough, my impressions now are almost completely different than they were back then. The game is totally incredible, and I've been playing it basically non-stop since I started.
