A few weeks ago I had a bunch of wine and thought to myself: "Self, what would it be like to get the podcast crew together to play TF2's Mann Vs Machine?" Sadly I couldn't get the whole crew on board, but I did manage to get 4 people who had barely played the game before, plus me being terrible at medic and great at healing spies. Unfortunately we weren't able to finish the round due to technical difficulties and the fact that it was getting so late, but fun was had by all (I think) and let it be known that I actually got Tim Spaeth interested in Team Fortress. Yay me. Enjoy the good times with myself, Chi "Heavy" Kong Lui, Tim "Welcome to the Jungle" Spaeth, Kristen "Self-destruct" Taylor, and Jeremy "Technical Difficulties" LaMont.

Richard Naik

Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Richard received his first console (the NES) at the age of six, and from that point on games have been an integral part of his life, whether it's been frittering summers away with the likes of Mario, Mega Man, and the Zerg or partaking in marathon sessions of Halo, Team Fortress 2 or Left 4 Dead. After being a longtime reader of GameCritics, Richard joined the staff in March of 2009, and over the years Richard grew into the more prominent role of part-time podcast host.

In 2016, he spearheaded a complete rebuild of the GameCritics.com website, earning him the title of Chief Engineer.

His gaming interests are fairly eclectic, ranging from 2D platformers to old-school-style adventure games to RPGs to first-person shooters. So in other words, he’ll play pretty much anything.

@Muffin I’ve actually got some other videos on that youtube channel, if you’d care to watch them 🙂 @Pedro It goes back and forth between discussion and game-related talk, which is kind of what I wanted. And Jeremy was a pleasure to have on-he’s welcome back anytime. One other thing I’d like to point out is that the voice overs go kind of wonky in places, due to a boneheaded decision I made about how I was recording them. I wasn’t able to separate them from the game sound, so thus I couldn’t adjust for things like loud explosions and… Read more »

I really enjoyed this video! Watched it all in one sitting actually. Aside from the technical difficulties, it was interesting (and entertaining) to watch you folks play together and co-operate.
I hope that you have enough time and interest in this yourself to upgrade more similar videos, whether it would be about TF2 or some other game.

Also, I just recently got in Team Fortress 2 myself after reading Richard’s articles/introductions a while back, and I’m really enjoying it so far. I haven’t tried Mann vs. Machine yet, but game modes like the Payload Race are especially fun.

Ha ha, interesting idea. Does it stray into conventional podcast territory at all (ie discuss various things) or do you just keep shooting stuff for the duration (I watched about 10 mins)?

Jeremy LaMont is very well spoken in that bit I watched. Sign him up.
