Tags: Watcha Been Playin'
I’ve played nothing for the last 2 months. Partly because of traveling, partly because I’m in my post-Dark-Souls-depression.
Currently playing Toki Tori. Picked it up for 49 cents, so it was money well spent.
Also been playing Pokémon Go with my son. He really wants to play videogames with me and this seems like a good casual entry for a five year old.
I’ve recently finished Inside. Awesome atmosphere and visuals. Just wish there was more….
Also, My gf and I have fallen back into FF 14 and it’s been wonderful. That game does an awesome job making you feel powerful and it’s has the best soundtrack to run around with.
Finished Inside. Too much average gameplay and not enough story telling. I don’t necessarily need to know the ultimate motivations, let alone conclusions, but filling in aspects of the events the world brings up would make this game so much better. Do more of that instead of some boring traversal and simple puzzles.
I just finished Inside. It’s very good, but I don’t like it quite as much as Limbo. Playdead still haven’t figured out how to make a satisfying ending to a game.
Started Earth Defense Force 4.1 on PS4. Despite owning several EDF games, this is the first one I’ve fired up and I’m enjoying it. Question for Dan and anyone else with EDF experience: is there a proper way to progress through the game? The game seems to want players to Ranger through the game on Normal before even trying any other classes. Not seeing any Mechs around, I got antsy and started playing Air Raider and figured out I could grind better gear on the Beach front level on “hard”. However, even with the better gear, all the stages outside… Read more »
You don’t have to – once you’ve got a good rocket launcher and assault rifle from hard, there are a couple of early levels you can farm for ‘very hard’ weapons that can give you a big leg up on playing the rest of the main game on hard. I’d ask you if you wanted help online, but the developers made the insane decision to have separate online and offline unlocking tracks, so high-level players aren’t allowed to help low-level players through some of the more difficult levels. Which you’d think would be the whole reason to play online. Have… Read more »
But I want to stay on the Air Raider track. Mechs seems to do horrible against bugs on “Hard”. Any recommendations on farming Air Raider?
I don’t know how many levels you’ve completed, but the best ones early on all involve giant robots – it’s fairly easy to kill them with tanks/mechs, they drop lots of weapons, and they refill your resource bar really fast, so you can always have a fresh tank waiting.
Once you’re pretty good with tanks, you should be able to go up to hardest difficulty on the first giant robot level, which will give you access to some very powerful vehicles. Also hopefully healing fields that will help you with co-op play.
I’m enjoying The Technomancer. I like the decisions you have to make (have already lied to my commanding officer twice!).
I started my Let’s Play of Mega Man X2. It only took me four years to get to the next game, so I should have the series done by the time I’m 60.
Just got Manhunt 2 for the PC, so I’m pretty excited to see how that goes!
I think The Wolf Amongst Us is still by far the best thing Telltale have done.
The year started very strongly for me, but for the last couple of months it’s been retreads of last gen on the PS4. Finished Dishonored and Gone Home, and played through TWD Michonne, which was ok.
I have the Banner Saga 2 queued up for when I can get a few consecutive evenings’ gaming lined up.
Highlights of the year so far have been Firewatch, Salt and Sanctuary, Stardew Valley, Rogue Galaxy and Dark Souls 3.
It turns out the Banner Saga 2 is a big step up from the first one. It is still howl-with-rage infuriating at times, on the back of all the arbitrary decisions you make along the path, and there are some truly appalling fights/enemies. But each fight is genuinely different from the one that comes before it, and they have mixed things up well to keep things interesting. The story is much better, or maybe it’s starting to make enough sense and the characters have developed enough to become invested now. Have just made it to the final chapter but have… Read more »
