Rumored since last year, Nintendo has officially announced the name, release date, and pricing for a new portable-focused, non switching version of its Switch hardware — the Switch Lite.
According to Nintendo, it’s meant to be a cheaper, smaller package focused on portable playing, instead of the portable/home console hybrid version consumers are already familiar with. As its name implies, the Lite is exclusively designed for play on the go, meaning it will be unable to dock and display on a television, and its Joy-Cons will not be detachable. The Lite boasts a 5.5 inch display, and is both smaller and lighter than the original Switch.
Launching on September 20th, the Nintendo Switch Lite will be priced at $199, with a special Pokemon-themed version launching later in November.
