This is one of the best trailers for a videogame I have ever seen. You don't know what you're in for until it is too late and the game, or at least its premise, has a hold of you. That is what Techland has accomplished with its disturbing trailer for its "first-person zombie-slasher/action-role-playing game", Dead Island. You have to hope that the developer is able to actually create the game that lives up to the hype generated from such a haunting trailer.

It does have to be said though, that’s an excellent promotional video for the game.
The sad thing is, how often are we wowed by the production quality of a video like that, only for the game to be utter garbage. Hopefully the game will live up to the same quality of production, that the gameplay will explore new and challenging directions, that the whole experience will be a rewarding one.
I see a suprising amount of comments on this video referring to it as art.
Guys, it’s a really well done promotional video for a zombie-killing videogame. Take it easy with the art talk.
The game can be like L4D with the option to increase Stamina, Dexterity, etc.
The game is hopefully more different than this… L4D is imo Serious Sam with Zombies. That’s hardly a horror game for me when you actually have firepower. The infos so far sound like Dead Rising with 4 player MP and if they get the melee gameplay (Condemned would be a good model, imho) right, it might be much better than the Capcom game i don’t like. For me there is a wide difference between stupid, repetitive slashing and intense frightening horror and going either way is… Read more »
“It’s a very good trailer. But the game can’t be like this, because this is a movie trailer.”
You’re missing the point. We don’t know what type of game it will be, but we all hope that the creativity and originality shown in this trailer will be reflected in the game. The trailer creator has gone that extra yard to make it effective – hopefully that is a true reflection of the creative effort behind the game as a whole.
Very nice trailer indeed.
Kind of remind me of Lost too, especially the music and the slowmo.
It’s a very good trailer. But the game can’t be like this, because this is a movie trailer. Should we open the “games vs movies” topic again? The game can be like L4D with the option to increase Stamina, Dexterity, etc. I don’t know if the family (father/mother/child) will be in the final game. Who would play as the child? The child could take all the zombies by herself while the AI father and mother watches or get almost killed with every wave of zombies? Maybe they’re thinking something like the tank/range attacker/healer, father holding the zombies back and doing… Read more »
Looks like Gaspar Noe’s Irreversible, only with zombies and less anal rape. If someone had bludgeoned a zombie’s skull with a fire extinguisher I would have either cheered or called the plagiarism police. :p
