Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution – Second Opinion

I think Gene is being a little pejorative by hanging that 8.5 on Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution. He labels it "user-nasty," then bemoans the fact that he had to spend time in the training mode—"slogging through command list after command list"—in order to reaquaint himself with the controls.

Devil May Cry 2 – Second Opinion

The original Devil May Cry was the perfect antidote to the Resident Evil series. Instead of counting bullets the way a starving man counts bread crumbs, Devil May Cry gave me unlimited bullets. Instead of controlling the tank-like Resident Evil characters (turn, turn, turn, go forward), I had Dante, who moved with the style and grace of a Cirque du Soleil acrobat.

Soul Calibur II – Second Opinion

Boxing is often called the "sweet science." The strategy, execution and skill make up the "science" and I'm assuming the thrill and satisfaction of victory is what makes it "sweet." In Soul Calibur III, I feel there's very little "science" that goes into the combat and consequently, victory isn't particularly "sweet."

Midnight Club II – Review

I've never understood car culture. What draws people to auto shows or NASCAR events is truly a mystery to me. My relationship with cars tends to be more utilitarian: they're here to get me to the game store and back, nothing more.
