There are a lot of games I didn’t manage to get to that are still on my “to play” list — frankly, there’s never enough time to get to them all. For every ‘big’ one I still want to get to, there’s an indie or two that are just as interesting and that same diversity of interest is reflected in the games I did pick for my 2019 list.
HIGH Simplistic, yet smart mechanics.
LOW Occasionally frustrating platforming.
WTF The lighthouse.
Burned Into My Memory
High It’s a unique take on visual novel storytelling.
Low Significant amounts of oversexualization.
WTF 90% of the male characters are constantly horny.
Sacrificing Story For Mechanics
HIGH Art design and voice acting.
LOW The story is forgettable.
WTF Why do those men look possessed?
Somewhat Pleasant Platforming
High Anyone can pick it up and play with ease.
Low No checkpoints in any of the levels.
WTF Why does a Jack-in-the-Box shoot rockets?
High Use of Hawaiian folklore gives a unique flavor.
Low Exploitable combat and repetitive quests.
WTF The audio choices, or lack thereof.
Purge The Non-Believers
HIGH New maps and characters.
LOW The additional story is a bit lackluster.
WTF The class that “hurts so good”
Hollow Story, Cursed Mechanics
HIGH A well-detailed and beautiful look.
LOW Navigating dungeons. Poor character development.
WTF What do you mean a sniper can’t hit the back line?
What Am I Fighting For, Again?
HIGH Solid mech combat with unique modes.
LOW The story is all over the place.
WTF The comatose mission in act 3.
