The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Review

Off the Charts

HIGH Holy crap, this game still looks good.

LOW The Triforce hunt, and being fooled into believing that it'd been severely overhauled.

WTF That kid with the massive, dangling booger.

Consoleation: All good things...

Consoleation: All good things...

After more than 12 years of writing about console video games—ranging from game reviews to sales analysis—I am officially "retiring." I use quotation marks because I can't really retire from something that I didn't really do for a living… but it's been more than 25% of my life, and the time has come to hang up my keyboard and step away… for good, this time.

Arkham Origins, Swap Force, Phoenix Wright and Gravity

For review, I've been playing two games at once… Not my favorite thing to do, but it is that time of the year and they aren't at all alike, so playing one is kind of like taking a break from the other. The first is Batman: Arkham Origins, as mentioned in the last post. I'm finding this is a very interesting title on many levels, but not necessarily for the reasons that you might expect.

Lego City Undercover Second Opinion

Built to Last...

HIGH Simple puzzles and hilarious dialogue.

LOW Waiting for everything to actually load.

WTF Being coached by twin brothers who both sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Pikmin 3, Army of Two, Super Mario 3D Land, Castles in the Sky & Tinman Games

Anyway, 2013 is a strange year. It's now October, and ordinarily I'd be up to my neck in review games at this time, but I'm actually drifting between assignments with nothing really due… I'm never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, though, so I decided to jump into a few things that have been lingering on the backlog.

DuckTales: Remastered Review

Not Pony Tails or Cotton Tails But...

DuckTales: Remastered Screenshot

HIGH Diving into the Money Bin!

LOW Managing to glitch the game so that I would have to exit and restart a stage manually, over and over again.

WTF How does Ms. Beakley keep getting into these hidden places before Scrooge and the gang?

PAX Prime 2013 Report: Wrap-up

PAX Prime 2013 Logo

So, PAX Prime 2013 is now over—and man, what a terrible, sh*t-tastic way to end it. Although it wasn't my favorite PAX, there were definitely some high points like seeing people whom I would otherwise never run into, and getting the chance to play games that I had been looking forward to. Some good times there, for sure. However, things really ended on a sour note once I got home.

PAX Prime 2013 Report: Day Three

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney—Dual Destinies Screenshot

Today was day three of PAX 2013, and although I did see some good things, my sense of the show overall is that the industry is holding its breath a bit. With the impending release of both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, it seems pretty clear that a big chunk of people are still trying to figure things out—while the indie scene was fantastic and the PC side was strong as well, there wasn't a lot on consoles that impressed me this year. It makes perfect sense, but I left the show floor with a vague "is this it?" feeling.

PAX Prime 2013 Report: Day Two

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood Screenshot

Today was the second day of PAX Prime 2013, and I'm a little sad to report that it's been a bit disappointing.
