Ultimate Ghouls 'N Ghosts – Consumer Guide

Andrew Fletcher's picture

According to ESRB, this game contains: Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence

Parents can be satisfied that the ESRB rating is perfectly correct, with the gore and slime of the game more than suitable for ages 10 and over given its grounding in pure fantasy and the cartoonish ghouls from which it spews. The high game difficulty is another good reason for setting the title out of reach of very young gamers.

Fans of the Ghosts 'N Goblins series are strongly advised to indulge themselves with this latest iteration. Though the gameplay remains familiar, the whole package has an irresistible lick of polish and can quite comfortably live up to its claim to be the definitive edition.

Old school gaming fans with a penchant for intense but well-crafted action should also consider picking the game up, as it is a perfect example of how to resurrect a golden oldie without losing an ounce of entertainment value to the years in between.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing gamers can rest assured that the few instances of dialogue that the game has are only presented as subtitles. However, as is sometimes the case with busy action games, certain audio cues that would help able-hearing gamers judge the action better could be missed. That said, any enemy attacks and environmental occurrences that I can recall have been visual first and foremost, so I would wholeheartedly approve Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins for silent or hearing impaired play.
