HIGH When "Power Core" plays during intense moments.
LOW Dying because the healing animation takes too long to finish.
WTF Pretty much the entire game, but in a good way.

Mars: War Logs is a confusing game on many levels. It's set on another planet far in the future, but most of the fighting involves whacking dudes with a glorified stick. The player never sees the game's only real "war," and instead deals mainly with an internecine conflict concerning the main character Roy's guild. Yet, in the end, even the internal power struggles turn out not to have been the driving force for the game's violence.

LOW How many times am I going to have to reload this slot machine?

By Sparky Clarkson on July 15, 2013 - 7:43pm.
The Devil You Know
HIGH Getting past the first score gate with a grand melee in the last three turns of the first age.
LOW Losing because almost the whole map turned into mountains just as my cities got going.
WTF A bunch of guys on foot can't cross mountains, but a giant siege engine on wheels can?

I finished Hotline Miami (Vita) for the first time, and after rolling credits, I'm feeling quite mixed. I already wrote about it once, but this is more of a final wrap-up...

So, Mark of a Hero. Although I haven't talked about it in a while, I've still been putting time into Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate. With my wife into it as deeply as I am and my oldest son here for the summer, there's been plenty of opportunity to play multiplayer locally and I've been happy to take advantage of it. We've been chipping away at it steadily, and our overall goal is to take down the Dire Miralis before my son goes back to his mom's house… We've got about three more weeks to go, and we're feeling hopeful.

Previewing Saints Row IV is a tricky proposition. There's a number of things I'd love to talk about, while at the same time understanding that these things are best experienced fresh.

Video games struggle with transposition. There have been some great games made out of films, but the statement seldom holds the other way round. There are some novelizations based around the more successful sagas, but these rarely reach out to an audience beyond the original fans. Other than that, few books are written which communicate with the gaming world.
