The Getaway – Review

Before I go any further with this review, I should mention that I am not suggesting the modern day gangster title The Getaway for the PlayStation 2 belongs in the same echelon of the aforementioned works. The Getaway is a big budgeted and highly ambitious release from Sony. However, it is also a severely flawed experience—or, to put it more bluntly, the gameplay sucks.

The Getaway – Consumer Guide

According to ESRB, this game contains: Blood, Drug Reference, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Violence

Portable Project - March 2003

Welcome to the second installment of Portable Project, a feature devoted to handheld gaming that gives critics a chance to comment on titles that aren't quite in-depth enough to merit a full-length review at the site.

Rygar: The Legendary Adventure – Second Opinion

As Brad says, Rygar: The Legendary Adventure borrows heavily--and in some cases, outright plagiarizes-from the structure and aesthetic of Devil May Cry (DMC). The static camera angles, the save system, and even the fonts are nearly identical to DMC.

Panzer Dragoon Orta – Second Opinion

As an unabashed admirer of the Panzer Dragoon series, I find myself in almost complete agreement with Gene's assessment of Panzer Dragoon Orta. Being intimately familiar with the previous three games, I found it difficult to imagine how they could improve upon the structure of Panzer Dragoon Zwei, which I regard as one of the best shooters of all time.

War of the Monsters – Second Opinion

Instead of featuring established Nintendo franchise characters, War Of The Monsters features established B-movie stereotypes, each with their own distinct fighting styles and personalities. The simple, two-attack-button control setup belies a deeper strategy, another feature that gave me a sense of Smash Bros. déjà vu.

1000 Game Heroes – Book Review

We don't do a lot of book reviews here at GameCritics.com. It seems like including more literature would be a natural fit for the site, but one explanation for our lack of coverage is that there aren't many books written about videogames in the first place.

Guilty Gear X2 – Consumer Guide

According to ESRB, this game contains: Blood, Mature Sexual Themes, Violence

Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair – Review

Out of a virtually limitless number of videogames to choose from, only three have been inducted into the world-renowned Smithsonian museum. This elite gathering includes the unquestionably historic titles Pong, Pac-Man, and the inspiration behind the subject of this review, Dragon's Lair.

Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball Second Opinion

Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball Screenshot

If the game were truly about volleyball, or even about forming relationships, then there would not be random screens of the girls walking up and down beaches or lying down in poses that make them appear, as a friend so aptly put it, "freshly raped."
