Ben at the Pen: Orientation

At orientation, DigiPen makes a point to scare the hell out of students who think this is going to be an easy ride playing videogames all day. It’s not like that at all. The deadlines and workload here are going to be pretty damn insane from what I can tell. I’m nervous, but I think you have to be or you wouldn’t be normal.

Sonic Advance – Review

To the new generation of young gamers, playing a Sonic The Hedgehog title on a Nintendo platform might not seem like anything that extraordinary, for it just represents another side-scrolling title. Yet, for anyone having owned a Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis and still retaining a bit of knowledge of the early nineties’ console war, such a thing would have been unthinkable even two years ago.

Armored Core 3 – Review

How many times can one person play the same game? At least six, evidently. While I still call myself a fan of FromSoft and their Armored Core series, I think I've finally reached my breaking point. I've taken all five of the previous games to 100% and beyond. Its safe to say that I know these games inside and out, and there's no doubt that I've enjoyed being along for the ride.

Deus Ex: The Conspiracy – Second Opinion

Deus Ex also earned critical acclaim for the way it seamlessly blended diverse gaming genres into a cohesive and entertaining whole. At first glance, the game appears to be yet another first-person shooter (FPS). Everything is viewed from JCs perspective and theres lots of running around and shooting. However, the game also incorporates an abundance of gameplay elements from role-playing games (RPGs).

Golden Sun – Second Opinion

Playing Golden Sun is like returning to your bedroom after being away for years. You'll still know where everything sits, and you can pretty much navigate the place with your eyes shut. Golden Sun presents that type of familiarity, especially with gamers who enjoyed the 16-bit era of role-playing games with the Super NES.

Thought Processing: The Role of the Critic

Once in a while, a game comes along that gathers good reviews from the general public but leaves critics and experienced game players wondering what all the hubbub is about. On the flip side, many newer gamers are often left puzzled why a game they love got the cold shoulder from the press when it seemed like a clear winner.

Stuntman – Review

It's a nice idea—put the player in the movie. But movies are a passive experience. I felt like my time was wasted—the levels themselves were so frustrating that this delayed reward added injury to insult.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy – Second Opinion

Ah, Jak and Daxter. I have a solid appreciation and more than a handful of fond memories for this disc.

Stuntman – Consumer Guide
