Daxter – Consumer Guide

Brad Gallaway's picture

According to ESRB, this game contains: Animated Blood, Cartoon Violence, Crude Humor, Mild Language

Parents really don't have much to worry about. Most of the violence depicts Daxter swatting, squashing, or spraying nasty-looking bugs. There are a few scenes where the bad guys come off as fairly menacing, but these segments are not very long or intense. A few of the cutscenes do have some light sexual innuendo, but most of it is pretty harmless stuff. If your children are old enough to figure out the game's controls, they'll be able to handle the content here quite easily.

Platforming fans who own PSPs are in luck. This is an excellent, top-notch game with superb production values made by people who really know what they're doing. Controlling Daxter on the bug-sprayer is great, and the levels are tight. Easily one of the best PSP adventure games, if not the best.

Jak fans will definitely want to check the game out. It is a full-blooded addition to the series despite being on a new platform and having a new set of developers. It fills in a few of the gaps and helps flesh out the story taking place before Jak II, and also ends up being a smoother, more enjoyable ride than that game as well.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing gamers finally get a game that breaks the series' bad habit of providing text for cutscenes but not during in-game communications. I am very glad to say that Daxter is fully accessible, with subtitles accompanying all spoken information. No problems here.
