The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers – Review

While gamers who are not fans of The Lord Of The Rings will likely find The Two Towers to be nothing more than an average action title (especially given its short length of twelve missions), I feel that the true test of any licensed game is whether it is able to hold up under the scrutiny of the fans. The answer in this case is yes.

Sneakers – Review

It's rare that I come across a game I can honestly describe as an unredeemable waste of time and money. However, it does occasionally happen. Recently, I had the misfortune to receive a copy of Sneakers in my play pile, and if there's ever been a game that was destined to pull coaster duty underneath frosty beverages, it's this one.

Metroid Prime Second Opinion

I agree with Matt when he says Nintendo's franchise updates have been ahead of the curve. As noted, keeping the good parts and reinventing what doesn't work really is the "secret" to making it happen. Nintendo's not the only company to successfully pull off revamping a classic, but they certainly have a higher rate of success than most. However, I fully expected their winning streak to end in a big way when it came to Metroid.

2002: The Year in Review

Welcome to GameCritics.Com's Year in Review. Instead of the usual top ten lists and buyer's guides, we decided to take a deeper, more personal look at the events of the past year. Four of our critics weigh in with their thoughts, opinions and impressions of the dynamic race between reigning champ Sony, returning favorite Nintendo and wild card Microsoft.

Defender – Second Opinion

I have to admit it. Had I not chosen to review Defender, I probably never would have played this game. As I saw it, this title didn't appear to have much riding for it. Brad commented that one of the reasons why Midway decided to give this particular game a modern age overhaul is due to the immense popularity the original amassed.

Metroid Prime Review

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about how Nintendo updates their classic series into 3D. We agreed that games like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are light-years beyond most other games in terms of how well they are able to retain the ambiance and personality of their 2D predecessors while providing a radically new gaming experience.

Robot Alchemic Drive – Review

There have been "Big Robot" games available as long as there have been consoles, but we've had a real bumper crop this year. I'm certainly not complaining, but the games in this genre typically share a number of traits, and with so many released in such a short time, it only magnifies their similarities. Don't get me wrong; I'm definitely a fan, but a greater amount of variety and divergence is needed.
