Monster Rancher 4 – Consumer Guide

Brad Gallaway's picture

According to ESRB, this game contains: Comic Mischief, Fantasy Violence

Parents
should steer younger ones away from the game. It has no explicit language, the violence is extremely tame, and there are no sexual situations, but the reason for this is that it's just not a very exciting experience for kids. They'll love the monsters and its bright and cheery exterior, but the game will be severely frustrating/boring to little hands who might not have the patience required.

Action gamers or RPG fans, this game is not for you. The fighting is good, but it's more about percentages than it is about hand-eye coordination, and there's really no serious attempt at a story or role-playing going on. Try it, but be warned.

Fans of odd, quirky stuff should run out and get a copy of this game right now. It's one of the most unique games on shelves today, and actually has been for years. If you're not afraid to try something new, this will be right up your alley.

Monster Rancher fans will find a lot to like, and possibly an equal amount to only sort-of like. There are many big departures from the norm, but most of them have equal parts good and bad. Still, this is a solid installment, and should not be missed.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing gamers have equal access to the game. There are no significant auditory cues, and all communication is presented through text. There are no voices in the game besides the monsters' various growls and yips.
