GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 99: Question Time

With 100 percent more GameCritics.com podcast regulars than last time, the almost significant Episode 99 delves into Pokemon X/Y, Etrian Odyssey Untold, How to Survive, and Demon's Souls. Then it's question time, covering everything from favourite Final Fantasy magic systems to the issues surrounding the Barkham Origins embargo. All of this in the allegedly capable hands of Sinan Kubba, Brad Gallaway, Richard Naik, and special guest Michael "Mac" Cunningham.

GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 98: Big Red Potion Reunion

Sinan Kubba, joined by just one GameCritic in the form of Brad Gallway, takes the opportunity to have a Big Red Potion reunion by bringing his former co-host Joe DeLia and Eurogamer's Jeffrey Matulef onto the show. The quartet take a dazzlingly irreverent (and temporally irrelevant) dash through the games they've been playing, covering The Last of Us, Saints Row IV, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, Ico, Wordament, Asura's Wrath, and The Wolf Among Us.

GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 95: Clearing out the Backlog

This week we attempt to scratch the mountain that is the GameCritics.com backlog by getting to some of those titles that we've always wanted to play, but never made the time for. Now, we have made the time, at least for three of the games. The crew dishes on I Am Alive, Sleeping Dogs, and Heavenly Sword, and more, plus a What We've Been Playing roundtable. Featuring Sinan Kubba, Chi Kong Lui, Brad Gallaway, and Richard Naik.

DmC: Devil May Cry—Vergil's Downfall Second Opinion

The Devil's Uprising

HIGH An all new fighting style to smash some skulls with.

LOW Those animated cut-scenes are extraordinarily hideous.

WTF Vergil's unlockable skin looks very, very silly.

GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 93: E3 Extravaganza!

A belated but always beloved E3 shindig for the GameCritics.com podcast team takes in the meandering of Microsoft, the smackdowns of Sony, and the no-shows of Nintendo in a thorough examination of the platform holders' performance at this year's conference. Strap yourselves in for a marathon effort from Sinan Kubba, Chi Kong Lui, Richard Naik, Mike Bracken, and Brad "The Bone" Gallaway.

GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 91: Most Overhyped/Underappreciated Games

It's the end of a generation, and the GC crew takes a look back at the era that was. We throw out our Most Overrated and Underappreciated games of the past gen, and somehow we were all still on speaking terms afterwards. Also, some bonus talk on the magic of Pokémon. With Sinan Kubba, Chi Kong Lui, Brad Gallaway, Mike "I Hate You All" Bracken, and Richard Naik.

Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi Review

No Love on This Battlefield

HIGH More screen time for the Hakuoki hunks.

LOW The gameplay.

WTF The best thing I can say about the game is that it has nice character designs.

GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 90: The Raiding of (non-existent) Tombs

It's a Tomb Raider extravaganza! We dish on the latest incarnation of Lara Croft, female protagonists in general, and the state of the "Cinematic Action" genre, a term which I claim full credit for coining. With Richard Naik, Brad Gallaway, Ashley King, Sara Rich, and (later on) Tim "Skype Connection Dropped" Spaeth.

Also, check out this article by our good friend Rhea Monique if you have time. Well worth a read.

Extra Credits: More Than Exposition

Extra Credits talks about the "exposition dump." What is that, you ask? The "exposition dump" is one of the easiest ways with which a developer can tell a story, explain a game world or explain a game world's rules. Even lauded game designers like Hideo Kojima use this method to tell a story—and why not, if Metal Gear Solid's success is any indication, there are few repercussions for overusing it. Thankfully, there are examples of doing the opposite and being rewarded for it. The Half-Life series, Fallout 3 and Journey are examples of doing it right.

DmC: Devil May Cry—Vergil's Downfall Review

Still a D*ck

HIGH Seeing that Vergil has his own fully-developed skill trees.

LOW Too many of those irritating Wisps.

WTF Why isn't Mission 5 the final mission?
