The Banner Saga Review

Hiking with Vikings

Banner Saga Review Screenshot

HIGH Setting up four enemy units to be cleared out in a single Warhawk Tempest swing.

LOW The final battle is terribly, terribly designed.

WTF ‘There must be at least 898 of them' is pretty accurate guesswork when estimating enemy numbers.

Mechs come

XCOM Enemy Within Review Screenshot

HIGH My Mec unit punching an Exalt scumbag through a wall and halfway down the street.

LOW It all feels a little too familiar despite the changes.

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness Screenshot Review

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft Preview

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

By and large, I am not a card game player.

All of my experience with card games comes from a brief attempt at Magic: The Gathering in high school and a lot of bored Saturday mornings with Yu-Gi-Oh! when I was too lazy to change the channel.

Random attempts to enter the genre have usually defeated me with dense rules, obtuse jargon, constant mechanic changes, and the prospect of buying hundreds of dollars worth of cards. None of these things attracted me as a potential new player.

Sword of the Stars: The Pit Review

You Won't See Bottom

Sword of the Stars: The Pit

HIGH Using psychic powers to crush foes in a cloud of shrapnel.

LOW Going five levels in a row without finding a single bullet.

WTF I starved to death because I didn't eat for an hour? Do I have a tapeworm?

Forced Review

No going back

HIGH Clearing a difficult arena within a hair's breadth of bloody failure.

LOW No mid-mission checkpoints can lead to some mindless repetition.

WTF I'm unsure whether Balfus is supposed to be comic relief or not. He's so deliciously deadpan!

GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 100: The Centennial

Sinan Kubba is joined by the full house of Brad Gallaway, Chi Kong Lui, Mike Bracken, and Richard "Ouya" Naik to celebrate a historic fixture in the history of the GameCritics.com podcast: The grand return of the Horror Geek. Oh, and 100 episodes of a podcast that's been like a pair of tattooed knuckles, offering both love and hate for all things gaming.. Yes, one knuckle's been slightly bigger than the other. Okay, not slightly.

Living It up with the Undead

HIGH Testing out feathered arrows on a compound bow.

LOW The ill-conceived fetchquest at the end of the game.
