Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished Order Up! on the Wii... considering a review... maybe, maybe not.

Anyway, it was good.. a big improvement on Cooking Mama, IMO. still sort of repetitive and minigamish, but it has a lot of charm and some great ideas.

Thumbs up.

Anyway, just finished Secret Agent Clank on PSP, and it was a complete pile of $h!t. Worst game in the R&C series, by a mile.

I may do a review if i've got the time, but if nothing else, don't waste any time or money on it.
An old friend of mine quit High Impact Games shortly after finishing Secret Agent Clank. Don't think it was related to the game quality (if I recall he was somewhat pleased with the outcome) but he was ready to move on.

As for me, I've almost "finished" Samba de Amigo for the Wii. Look for a review within the week.

Looking forward to it, Frog.

BTW, Chi will have a post about the new user review guidelines pretty soon. make sure to check it out, i think you'll find that the new system is a big upgrade and pretty interesting.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Finally finished Okami for the Wii today. It was fun. I totally couldn't imagine playing it on anything but the Wii, though. Brush techniques with a controller couldn't have possibly been as much fun - or as rewarding - to land just right! Granted, it was a little testy at times, but still. I liked it!

The game overall hit a lot of high notes. The art was great, the story had its moments, and the fighting was nifty... but about half way through the game, I was over it. I can't say I regret soldiering on, though. The ending was inspiring! It did a lot to kinda send me back down memory lane - reintroducing characters and locations I remembered fondly - and I actually found myself reminiscing as though the experiences were my own. This might not have been so significant had I finished the game in a reasonable amount of time, but I think it took me something like 3 months to reach the finale (clocking about 40 hours overall, which doesn't say much for how often I actually played). Anyway, I guess what I'm getting at is that I liked it... even though I had a hard time finishing it! Haha!

Now that I've closed that chapter, I think I might pick up World of Goo and give it a go (it's out now, right?)!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished Yakuza 2 on PS2.

Gotta say, Hideo and the team behind MGS4 could take some serious lessons from Yakuza, especially in regard to the ending.... the final scenes in Y2 were so pitch-perfect, i could hardly stand it. now THAT was the right way to end a game.

BTW, i was about to DL World of Goo until i saw it was $15...it seems that this is the new "standard" price these days. i skipped it for now and downloaded Cubello instead. it's pretty sweet.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Yeah, I was turned off by World of Goo's steep pricetag, too. I'd feel differently if it was a physical product, but I'm not quite to the point of paying so much for downloadable content just yet. Maybe one day...

Anyway, I finished another gem the other night: Gurumin for the PSP. A great game with a lot of charm. Very consistent from start to finish. Some of the levels started to feel a little 'been there, done that' by the end, but at just over 16 hours I can't complain too much. Something else that stood out about this title was the music and voice work. Some of the best I've heard on the PSP yet (granted, I'm still cutting my teeth on the little thing, but still)! I think this one's available through the PlayStation Store right now for $15 beans, but if you're like me - and you're willing to shop around - you can probably find a UMD someplace for as much or less!

Aside: The latest PSP update that installs the PlayStation Network and Store directly onto the PSP's menu bar is very, very cool. If you haven't caught this update yet, I highly recommend it!

Just played World of Goo... not done with it yet, but it's worth it.

Just finished Saints Row 2 yesterday... it was fun of a sort, but i'd say SR1 was better in every respect except for the new character customizatons and the helicopters in SR2.

still, considering SR1 is $10 and SR2 is $60, SR1 is the way to go, IMO.

Finished Dead Space. Great game. Now I have to finish slogging through Stalker: Clear Sky. Not to spoil too much for the forthcoming review, but it sucks. A lot. Like, what-the-hell-were-they-thinking kind of suckage.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished Etrian Odyssey (#1) on DS.

Gotta say, that was a pretty substantial commitment... I wasn't keeping track, but I feel like it was pretty close to the 40-hour mark.

It was kind of weird for me since I played the second one before the first, but both were very good... I was sort of wondering if I would miss the improvements that were made after player feedback, but it wasn't too bad.

I actually liked the story of #1 better, but #2 was a smoother ride (though both are hard as hell).

If you haven't tried either one and you're looking for a pretty old-school RPG experience, you can't lose either way.

"Finished" (on easy...) Area 51: Blacksite . A very good rail shooter peer-pressured into pretending to be a technically adept but uninspired FPS.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished Fallout 3 a few minutes ago... took me about 49 hours and I can honestly say that I was not bored during any of it.

GOTY material, easily.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I beat Gears 2.

It's a great game. A lot of fun, and everything I expected it to be. There were some surprises (the Rockworm and the fish boss) and some disappointments (making the game too much of a literal "thrill ride"). It's better than part 1, but that's to be expected.

Overall just a mere footnote in a year that's ending with some solid releases.

The story wasn't so bad. The dialogue wasn't horrible either. Penny Arcade seems to have a problem with the "ten shitloads" line, but I thought it was funny for what it is.

Dead Space was a much better game though.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I just beat Crisis Core: FF7.

For an RPG on an RPG starved system it wasn't too bad but it was just underwhelming.Really repetitive battles,a mostly uninteresting story and Zack ended up being the only character I liked.

Plus it just had to end off with the PS3 tech demo for FF7.At this point, its just a matter of time before the remake comes out.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Forgot to say i beat Feeding Frenzy 2 on XBLA and World of Goo on Wiiware recently... FF2 is what it is, and is good for short burts, but WoG is actual GOTY material.

At this point, it's a toss-up between WoG and Fallout 3 for me. No joke.

Finished A Kingdom for Keflings today on XBLA... a pretty relaxing, pretty fun little game.

i did not use my NXE avatar, though... it didn't go with the graphics style and just looked wrong.
