Out of curiosity, how is it that this thread (nearly 4 years old) only has 95,000 total views but the "tips" thread about Need for Speed already has 82,000 views in a month?
I smell shenanigans of the pageview-boosting variety.

I'm the one that's viewed the tips thread for 'Need for Speed' over 82, 000 times last month - that game is frikking hard.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I finished Uncharted: Drake's Fortune yesterday. What a great game!
The game is not without faults. There were several occasions where I'd watch the textures fill in and one time I'd jumped, only to return to a previous location. Other than that, the game is a beautiful piece of work and very entertaining.
Supposedly, this is part one of a trilogy. I can't wait for part 2 to arrive.
* One other thing I'd noticed; Uncharted looks like it's using the Trophy system that's part of Home. Does anyone else know anything about this?

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I just beat Call of Duty 4 on veteran mode. It took me a few days of short, hour-long bursts.
The penultimate level, No Fighting in the War Room, was a slow crawl, quite literally. I found it impossible to use the standard run 'n' gun tactics on that level, and there's no way one could simply post behind cover and fire off shots. The only way to try avoiding hits was to crawl through and peer over through corners, hoping that the enemy AI wouldn't spot you. There's one particular area where enemies could fire you from all sides.
It was silly, and I'm glad it's over. And I haven't given the Mile High Club achievement any serious undertaking. To beat that ridiculously difficult level in only 60 seconds?! I've read that some people took up to five hours to master it. My friend can play the bassline of the level's music by memory because he played it so many times.
I'm also starting to get back into the groove of the online mode. Last night I killed 13 people in a row, more than half of them with only a knife. Very Big Boss of me.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I finished the Xbox 360 version of Bioshock last night. Great game overall, and an experience I was kinda down about wrapping up (for the first time in awhile, I found myself finishing a game before I was ready to put it down). I had heard talk prior to diving into this one that momentum is lost in the latter stages, but I didn't feel that way at all. If anything, the storylines just got a little overcomplicated and a few of the characters didn't get fleshed out as well as I would have liked. Even with that, though, my experience was well driven all the way up until the [read: lackluster] final battle and ending sequence.
I saved all the little sisters throughout the game, but I'm thinking about one day going back through and taking the opposite approach. Anyone that went that route have any comments about whether or not the ending was worth the trouble? Because I don't know about the rest of you, but the "good" ending was kinda... lame!

My God, what dark, ominous collusion in the aether, for it seems we finished at the same time! (Putting it that way sounds both ornate and slightly dirty.) I don't think the later stages lost momentum, in fact I think I experienced a major spike of interest around the encounter with Andrew Ryan and the game actually started to cohere in a way I was thinking it wouldn't since the middle of the game felt like such a muddle. I too got the good ending, and I have mixed feelings about it (less said about that end boss the better, though). I actually thought it was kind of moving, but then the game ended so quickly that I had to ask myself if that was all there was to it--the ending seemed to be about the length and had the general tone of an expressionistic tampon commercial. You don't even get a decent credit roll with a potentially evocative musical choice, it just rudely jumps back to the menu like a dick. I think it's a kind of pandemic in American game design to have such half-assed endings.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I agree about the "tampon commercial"... my wife and i were both wondering here the rest of it was, specifically the deep, emotionally touching part i'd heard so much about.
and is it just me, or was the golf encounter with Ryan just totally nonsensical? i hear many citing that particular moment in the game, but for me, it was pretty worthless.
getting back on track, i didn't finish anything, but i'm finished with Contra 4.
a hell of a good game and the extras are awesome, but it's just too freakin' hard on Normal. i just can't motivate myself to put out the effort to get through the punishment, and i'm moving on.
that is all.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Well, I dug the "golf encounter" and the game did manage to stir up some kind of an emotional reaction from me at the end, even if it was rather muted by brevity and tampon commercialishness.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Enduro, I too am curious about what you thought about Eternal Sonata.
Finally plugged in Oblivion before the holidays after being overwhelmed by it the first few times I played it. Absolutely amazing. Beat the main story line, done the Fighter's and Mage's Guild questlines, Knights of the Nine, and the Arena. I guess I'll go "evil" now and tie off the other quests. I really like my KoN armor, though. It's going to be hard to part with it.
I'll be playing this game until Culdcept Saga and Lost Odyssey come out. Oh, and I'll probably pick up Rock Band today to give the non-football types something to do during the Super Bowl party.

I just beat Assassin's Creed last night. ^_^
Left me wanting more, that's for sure. I think I might hunt down all the flags and Templars before giving it back to the kid I borrowed it from. :P

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
finally finished Half-Life 2 on 360 the other day... it was too long in general, but had plenty of killer segments. the narrative and characterization completely sucks, though.
Also finished Orcs & Elves on the DS. the animation blows chunks but it was surprisingly fun overall, in an oldschool dungeoncrawl sort of way.
and, i didn't finish, but i'm finishED with Uncharted on PS3. i am *stunned* at what high numbers it got. yeah it's beautiful, but come on... it's total ass to play. blech!!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I finally wrapped up Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door last night - after starting it, putting it down for nearly a year, and then starting back up where I left off - and I have to say that I'm quite pleased with the experience as a whole. It was surprising to see that I had spent nearly 50 hours soldiering through this one. Never once - in spite of all the fetching and turn based battling - did it feel like work (except maybe when trying to delve into the 100 level dungeon thing). Having said that, I think it was the humor that really carried this game. Had it not been as entertaining stylistically, I might have never come back to wrap it up!
Excellent game for those of you who haven't played it! And the first game I've played in awhile that actually rewarded me with a decent ending!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Bioshock's bad ending was even worse, IMHO. I saw it first, and when I saw the good ending later, I thought it was a breath of fresh air.
Personally, I would've liked Bioshock to end with a shot of Jack roaming the empty halls of Rapture, forever vigilant in protecting the Little Sisters. More ambiguous, but way more proper than the crap you get at the end.
The deep emotional part everyone talks about is the "golf encounter" Snack Eater alludes to. It certainly struck an emotional and intellectual chord with me, and is last year's defining gaming moment for me.
I haven't beaten any new games, because I haven't played any new games. I do plan on picking up No More Heroes today. I'll give you all impressions sometime tomorrow.
