Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Well, I beat Rez and got the "she is still trapped inside" ending. Now, I'm going to turn my attention to the Doom trilogy. I beat Doom II a while back, and I'm going to get Doom Collectors Edition, a 3-in-1 pack of Ultimate Doom, Doom II and Final Doom (with a few extras, like wallpapers and a Doom 3 trailer) for $15. I have a $5 trade-in credit from Gamespot, so the price will be cut down to $10.
Anyways, next up for me: Ultimate Doom and Final Doom.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I just finished The Longest Journey. If any of you have any interest in classic, Sierra/Lucasarts-style adventure games, you owe it to yourself to run to CompUSA right now and buy this for $14.99. It's arguably as good, and I might say better, as any game in the genre. And this is coming from an old-school Sierra freak. I mean it. Check it out.
(I nearly cried at the ending, okay?)

Ooh! Ooh! Mega Man IV, baby.
Okay, so it was on Easy Mode. And I had to use Internet "crib sheets"...extensively. But it's still a feat, darnit--especially since....
SPOILERS?
....you don't get to save when you beat Dr. Cossack's castle and go to Dr. Wily's. (I found this out the hard way). Bah. Although I found Wily's castle to be a lot easier than Cossack's. Go figure.
END SPOILERS
I'm in the castles of the last four Mega Mans (Mega Men?), and I love being able to relive the Blue Bomber's glory. I rented the original Mega Man as a kid and enjoyed it, but I sucked hardcore and never picked it up again. Thank goodness for cognitive maturity (and Easy Modes--shut up! ). My only question for Capcom is: what is it with the "disappearing block" puzzles? Are y'all sadists?

The disappearing block sequences are to Mega Man games are the medusa heads are to Castlevania games or the eagles are to Ninja Gaiden.
Although I haven't played the Xbox NG, so I don't know if the eagles make a triumphant return (and if they do, they better be knocking Ryu to his death down mountrain crevasses).
Currently, I'm trying to avoid medusa-head-death in Symphony of the Night. It's not going so well, especially since I'm having a seriously hard time figuring out exactly what you have to do to those spinny gears in order to open the door. It's aggravating, I tells ya.

Oh yeah, Beat Shadow of Destiny, once. Really cool game, it's definitely someting different. At least on consoles that is. It's almost Shenmue-esque in that there are little scenes you can initiate that accomplish absolutely nothing but to flesh out the town a little more. Thumbs up.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I finally beat FFX-2 yesterday. In some other post I was gloating about kicking ass in the 100-level dungeon (Via Infinito), but I should have kept my big mouth shut because at Level 100 I met my match in Trema. But I say it's pretty unfair that he will use a totally devastating attack (like Genesis) quite early in the battle sometimes, so you have NO chance. Then you have to go back and fight Paragon again. No thanks. So I went straight on and tackled Vegnagun which was a breeze. Quite an anticlimax. But I still enjoyed the final FMVs, and got the Good Ending .
Anyway, it wasn't as good as FFX but I had a lot of fun playing it, plus going back through Spira was a blast. And the Active Time Battle system was nowhere near as intimidating as I thought it would be. You get used to it pretty fast.
Favourite musical themes: Macalania Wood and Zanarkand.
I'd love to go on to another RPG but I've got Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life burning a hole in my shelf so I think I'll play that next. (The first shipment sold out superfast here and I waited months for it to come back in.)

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Beat Max Payne: The First on XBox. I did this one /after/ completing Max Payne: The Second (on sale reasons). I enjoyed it, except for those damned mazes! Sheesh, I'm glad they got rid of those for the second outing. Also, I thought the end was too easy (even for me); the last boss was definitely beefed-up for the latter game as well.
Oh, and I got Timesplitters 2 for the XBox. I love it! (Both single player and multi-player, especially the awards at the end of a match.) Though my dorky friends just keep saying, "Well, it's certainly no Halo." Bah-humbug, they are. Anyway, I put this here, b/c it took me so damned long just to get through the first level of the campaign (on normal). Damn, that was friggin' /hard/! So, it was a big milestone for me.
P.S. No, I haven't yet finished Crono Trigger, b/c I wanted some run & gun action.

I beat Chronicles of Riddick the other day...
I wrote a review, and there's linkage in one of these posts about the game, so... yep.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I've beaten two games that I've had in my collection for a while without beating them in the past two days:
Ico and Shenmue
Ico has a truly perfect ending, and Shenmue, while anticlimactic, has a pretty good ending as well. In fact, the last hour or so of the game is fantastic, a major change from the majority of that final disc, which gets pretty old after the third day of work.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
I rented Chronicles of Riddick on Friday, and beat it today (and I didn't even touch it yesterday!). It's been a while since I just plowed through a game beginning-to-end like this... it helped that the game was short (perfect rental).
As for the game itself, it was good. The stealth-colour change design works well (better than that stupid shadow-bar in Splinter Cell). However, I think the game suffered from the same problems that a lot of stealth-tactics games suffer from (mostly dumb AI and trial-and-error-itis).

Beat Gunvalkyrie. Got it back after about a year, and turns out it's like riding a bike. I made it my bitch in a fraction of the time it took me the first time around.
