Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
And then two days later, Bionic Commando (2009)!
I share CT and Brad's general flummoxed-ness at the game's reception, and it only gets worse the more I try to understand it. Complaints about a lack of a cover system? Complaints about how it's a bad "open world" game? It's rare to see a game so critically misunderstood.
It honestly reminds me a lot of the whole Shinobi PS2 debacle. A lot of people complained that the game was a very poor devil may cry ripoff, only it wasn't attempting to be a DMC-alike at all.
Also, did anyone else get an MGS vibe from this game? "Colonel Joe, what aren't you telling me?!" "Focus on the mission Solid Spencer!" and then follow that up with a Deepthroat like informant and a final enemy that asserts that you've only made it this far because they let you and that's pretty much the original MGS.
Except MGS didn't have weird, pointless characters who show up and serve no purpose. It seems like different people were in charge of the storyline at different times, and there was zero communication between them.
Anyway, huge thumbs up!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Finished Killzone 2's campaign.
The main campaign is only slightly above average the multiplayer is fantastic. There were some cool moments, but most of the game is spent shooting down swarms of enemies. Usual FPS stuff.
The multiplayer mode takes what is great about Call Of Duty and adds a bunch of cool features.
Two things I hope get put into the Call of Duty games in the continuous matches and a class/job system.
In KZ2 once one objective is complete the game doesn't stop. Instead it continues right into the next objective( deathmatch, territories, etc). A match typically lasts 7 rounds before ending.
KZ2 also has a job system similar to the Battlefield series.

Finished Phantasy Star Portable on PSP. Started good, ended weak. Pretty tedious. Awesome character creator, though.

Recently beat Contra ReBirth on the Wii. Ran through the campaign on Easy and Normal modes. This game is great. Pick it up if you haven't already.

Tonight I ran through the original Sonic the Hedgehog on my newly acquired Genesis. Still a blast to play, but a tad too long for my tastes (at least without a save feature).

Just finished Jurassic Park on the Genesis. A ho-hum platformer that becomes frustrating at times because so much is based on trial-and-error that almost always leads to death.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Aw man I wrote up this whole huge thing and it got deleted .
Anyway my desire for Demon's Souls and King's Field in general reached such fever pitch that I imported King's Field Additional I on a whim, and beat it today, the day before I pick up my Demon's Souls pre-order.
I don't feel like writing the whole thing again, but suffice it to say I was very disappointed at first (loading screens? random battles? dungeon crawler?) but once the (very limited) walkthrough on GameFAQs ran out on me, it had that familiar KF feeling.
The language barrier wasn't much of a barrier, and in some ways it even enhanced the experience, giving an alien, impenetrable quality. I do admit some developments towards the end of the game really had me curious about what was actually going on though.
I also wanted to mention that the quality of level design in KF that Chi praised is still--somehow!-- present here. It's amazing that in a grid-based dungeon crawl I still found navigating without a map to be totally doable.
My enthusiasm for the game increased the more I played it, until I devoured the entire latter half of the game in 2 days. I'll probably look into importing Additional II since there's a clear file transfer feature, but started tomorrow it's Demon's Souls all the way, baby!

Finished the original Metal Gear. I hate this game. It's severely lacking distinguished direction. This is the second time I've beat Metal Gear without ever getting to rescuing Pettrovich's daughter.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!
Finished Halo 3:ODST. It had an enjoyable campaign. It has short, but so was Halo 3.
I liked the pacing and focus on character. The gameplay was about the same except for the fact that you were not as powerful as Master Chief. I actually liked that.
I didn't like being stuck inside a city the entire game, but it made sense with the story that Bungie was telling. Halo environments always felt like they were built by Mattel to me.
The music was fantastic. I am going to download the soundtrack for sure.
Overall I liked it. Maybe even more that Halo 2 & 3 (I am not that big of a Halo fan though). With the inclusion of the online maps and firefight it was a good value to me. If you already have the maps wait for it to drop to at least $40.

here ya go. I got the game for 30 bucks on ebay, so the NCSX price isn't totally accurate.
I also spent some time praising the battle system before my original post got deleted. It does have random battles, but they're not turn based. Triangle attacks and X raises your shield. Both actions take require stamina (which fills up while you're not doing either) so there's a big risk-management aspect of it.
Unfortunately, outside of bosses, it is a bit easy, and I died way more from floor pits and poison gas than actual combat, but now that I think about it that's sort of the King's Field way.
I did find myself wishing for a more "typical" KF experience sometimes though (after all, they pulled it off on cellphones three times over) but after seeing the credit scroll, which consisted of maybe ten or so people, I can see why they opted for something a bit more low tech.
I considered reviewing it, but the idea of having one import review floating in a sea of regular titles seemed weird to me, so I opted to just post about it here.

Boy> Looks interesting... I'd give it a whirl. BTW, I'd love to see a review if you change your mind.
AND... Just finished Demon's Souls. What a completely awesome game. I'm still in awe. Total, total, total masterpiece.
Superb.

Chezka: Yep, it's in entirely in japanese. It's pretty easy to work around that though, once you figure out what menu selections mean what.
