Re: Red Ring of Death hits me
Someone else mentioned that to me. I'm going to call them today.

Re: Red Ring of Death hits me
The tracking number on the UPS shipping label shows my package was delivered on 2/10/2009. I have a feeling this repair is going to be a massive headache. Stay tuned.

I just called them--they're not fixing mine for free.
$99 is outrageous when you can buy a new fucking arcade unit (with the supposedly improved board) for $200.

I would just say forget Microsoft at that point.
I bought the supposedly improved board and my 360 red ringed.

Re: Red Ring of Death hits me
You got one of the new Arcade systems with the Jasper board and it still red ringed? That blows.
Unfortunately, I kinda have to have one. Reviewing is one thing, but I own like 50 Xbox 360 games that are pretty much useless without a console.

50% off is still 50% off and getting a new one is no guarantee it won't RR again.

Re: Red Ring of Death hits me
Yeah, but with a new one my three year warranty starts over.
Plus I've seen how MS "fixes" things. My stepson is on 360 #3 already.

What keeps people on the 360? Halo? Gears of War? Both games are good, but not great.
I can understand if the person is like Mike and already owns 50+ games on the console.
Most of the great games this generation are multi-platform.
I have a newer Elite model that red ringed. Of course when the shipped a refurb back to me they sent me an older model.

Re: Red Ring of Death hits me
The 360 does have the best online service, and even though Sony has made major improvements to PSN, going online just isn't the same. I might as well throw my bluetooth headset away, because nobody seems to have one, or they aren't using them if they do, because it's such a pain to set up your router for the proper NAT setting.

Re: Red Ring of Death hits me
I have no problem getting online with PSN. I have been playing online right from the wi-fi.

I have no problem getting online with the PS3. The real problem is getting an internet connection with a NAT Type 2 or less.
You basically have to open up the port (DMZ) for a specific ip in your router, then set your PS3 to the same static IP. It's probably one of the reasons why so few PS3 players actually use a headset, because a NAT3 rated connection has issues with headset broadcast and in some cases, sending friend invites.
There is an easier way, where you can just set the MTU to 1500 in the PS3.

Re: Red Ring of Death hits me
Interesting article on the RRoD rate on the 360.
Not sure I believe the scientific veracity of the numbers, but anecdotally I'd buy it.
