Ah...if you just played the first two thirds of the game, would you have rated it higher?

Definitely. It's not that the quality isn't high throughout (other than the last hour with the escort mission and the boss, the game is incredibly polished from beginning to end), but Bioshock has convinced me you can have way too much of good thing.

Talking of the aforementioned last hour, it felt way too rushed. I'm not contradicting what I've said, but the pacing of the game is probably the worst thing about it.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Finished the main story of Sleeping Dogs about a month ago and Borderlands 2 yesterday. Both games I enjoyed.

Sleeping Dogs is a fantastic modern day brawler set in an open world. The hand-to-hand combat really works. As a Hong Kong action flick fan I really liked the setting despite having a story that is little cliche. The driving mechanics are great too.

Borderlands 2 answered my complaints about the first game. 1: There is more of a story giving you more sense of purpose. 2: There is more variety to the locations. The game is pretty funny. Maybe not rolling on the floor funny, but gives you a nice chuckle throughout.

Is there still more improvements to be made to Borderlands? Yes, but I am really happy with my time with the game. Same can be said about Sleeping Dogs. *crosses fingers for a sequel*

I plan on returning to both games to play the side quests.

EDIT: Picked up Spec Ops today on sale to see what it is about.

Agree, I think. I'm playing in co-op and as such we are charging through the game without even being aware of the story, but I don't think that matters. How long did it take you to complete, do you think? The game seems massive.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Borderlands 2 does not tell a story like Metal Gear or Final Fantasy, but there is enough of a story there to give purpose to what you are doing a tie the events together. That is all I needed.

I beat the game in 30hrs. I still have a lot of side missions to do. I just wanted to finish the main campaign before getting distracted by another game.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

XCom Enemy Unknown on classic difficulty. Originally I wanted to play ironman. But now I'm lucky I didn't, because close to the end I encountered a couple of bugs that would have directly lead to me loosing some of my best soldiers, if I'd not been able to restart the mission. For example people getting "stuck" somehow, camera freaking out so that I'd send people absolutely not where I intended to etc. All in all they were just minor annoyances in an otherwise great game, but with a relentless autosave-function they would have been infuriating.

XCom Enemy Unknown is very well put together and doesn't stick to the formula where it doesn't make sense. A lot of the micro-management has been taken away. This micro-management was fun when starting a game of the original X-Com or Terror from the Deep, but got tedious after a while. I don't miss having to give each soldier a electronic light source before each mission, because the premier fighting force of planet earth apparently never heard of IR or low-light vision goggles.

The aliens themselves are also not as goofy as in the original. I like the new alien designs better than the old ones and whoever claimed before launch that the cryssalids in the new game will not be as terrifying clearly has no idea what he's talking about.

All in all a GOTY-contender and recommended to anyone who likes strategy games.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I haven't been able to post here for a long while, but I've finally finished XCom Enemy Unknown. On Normal difficulty, which was pitched pretty well towards my abilities.

It was frustrating at times, but it's the mark of a really good game that it keeps you coming back, gets under your skin.

Lots wrong with it - shooting through walls was the worst. I get that maybe the first shot of the burst knocks down the wall, and the second kills you, but it was in no way consistent and took a bit of the strategy away.

The final few missions I found half my squad couldn't cross a tiny scorch mark on the floor, while the other half could jump through 10ft high flames. This was amusing enough, as I had to keep taking those guys' turns even though they were half a level behind the others. It would kill you on ironman, this stuff, though.

They also kinda fucked up the end scene on PS3.

But there is a lot of good; the previously mentioned addictive qualites, the cheesy characters, the base strategy and the battlefield strategy. Very accessible to a strategy noob like me too. It probably sounds more bad than good, but that isn't correct. A lot of fun and definitely a GOTY contender.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Finished The Walking Dead - Episode 1. Had quite some issues getting the damn thing started in the first place. Had to set compatibility mode for Win98/ME of all things...

Even now that it runs I have bad framerate issues in some scenes. From a technical standpoint a disaster.

The game itself is very engaging though, which made me suffer through the difficulties. Very tense atmosphere and I'm curious where it's going from here.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I didn't have any technical issues but I found the mousewheel-driven choice selection very annoying. In fact I ragequit at the first decision in Ep 2 and haven't been back since. I guess I'll play through the whole lot when the last one comes out. Looks like it is going to be the Game Critics GOTY, so I kinda feel obliged to play it through.

Not that I am one to speak... WD is not much of a game.....Loom was more of a game.....

A game requiring neither skill and or thinking is not a game.... but a interactive film and I so loath interactive films....

The Walking Dead on PC - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

I just started the walking dead with the intention of playing episode 2. Firing up, I noticed it didn't save my graphics settings. Ok, annoying but not a big deal. Then I go to the episodes and want to start episode 2, it asks me if I want to generate random decisions for the episodes I skipped.

...

what?

...

My savegame has gone. No idea where, I sure as hell didn't delete it.

A series of conflicting emotions later I quit the game and am currently contemplating deleting the fucking thing. I don't want to play through the entire thing in one sitting or even through the first episode again, just to try and see if it bothers to save my progress this time. This interactive movie isn't that good that I desperately want to sit through the cheap scares and series of QTE again. No more telltale games for me, thanks.

It should be in "\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead" .

At least its easier to find than Dead island stuff.
