I hate to so often say I agree with Brad, but here again, I agree with Brad. (I can't help it, when it comes to writing we think alike.)
I can say that I feel like this was approached as a critical essay about specific game features, rather than being a "review." I gather from past writing that you are looking for a critical approach to games in your own flavor of writing, and this piece is on that path; and I think it benefits on its own terms by being more streamlined than your LBP piece.
The section that interested me the most -- for whatever it's worth -- is your paragraph on the controls and how they are a minimal boundary.
I am reminded of a design post-mortem from Gamasutra or Edge in reading this. It's not got the same level of detail, but that's what it made me think of.
