Ys 4: The Dawn of Ys is down for the count.
Y'know if they actually went balls out with it, I feel like they really could have had something cool with the whole "each Ys game pertains to a revisionist idea of some historical mythic culture" angle, but the way they do it just makes them seem lazy.
The 4th game obviously was supposed to have some Aztec-y overtones, but aside from a single symbol that looked like aztec art and a "city of gold" that didn't look gold or aztec in any way when you finally get there, it's just the same fantasy setting as always.
It also was the least interesting Ys to me that I've played.
Onward to Ys 6 I guess. Ys 5 doesn't have a english translation patch yet
