Re: Persona 4 or Persona 3 FES

The Persona games have dumb stories. Who wants to play as some tweedlebrain high schooler and spend half your time watching an animation of your character studying or eating noodles.

Re: God Hand rules

YES

I don't even care that I've never gotten past, like, the second or third level.

It's still one of my favorite PS2 games ever.

Re: Why is Mass Effect so critically acclaimed and popular?

I dunno.

I finished and kinda enjoyed KOTOR and Jade Empire, but by the end of JE I was pretty tired of the formula. Mass Effect felt like more of the same - ok gameplay, ok writing, ok art...

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

"Finished" (on easy...) Area 51: Blacksite . A very good rail shooter peer-pressured into pretending to be a technically adept but uninspired FPS.

Re: Fallout 3 quick impressions

Also, character creation is flawed, as there is a clearly optimal template: 10 in Intelligence and Endurance (the only two skills that grant bonuses each level) and 4s in the other attributes.

Re: Fallout 3 quick impressions

Warning: very mild spoilers

Basis of impressions:
Picked it up yesterday and played for about 3-4

hours. Created one character, played through the

Vault tutorial, surveyed the area around...

Re: Too Human a critical flop

I played the demo for about 10 minutes and was bored to tears. Whoever got this game a cover story deserves a medal and a raise.

Re: Games of the Year... as of August.

Geometry Wars 2 is the front-runner for me at the moment for consoles....improves in many ways on its predecessor, which was already one of the best 360 games.

Re: Too Human Demo?

I admit I didn't give the game much of a chance, but I was underwhelmed. The gameplay reminded me of Crimson Sea, which in my book is not a good thing. Graphics were underwhelming in the five minutes...

Re: Most dissapointing sequal ever

Serious Sam 2...I thought this question would be easy but that's pretty much the only sequel I remember thinking was worse than the original. Oh and maybe KOTOR2.

Re: Yahtzee wrong about Oblivion?

I definitely intend to let his opinions influence my purchasing decisions. It's plenty useful to have someone who's upfront about his tastes tell you very clearly whether he likes a game.

Re: Yahtzee wrong about Oblivion?

I think it's ridiculous to accuse him of having no substance just because he strives to be entertaining. Yes he's somewhat cynically made himself into a brand formula, and it's the kind of formula...

Serious or not I definitely already trust this guy's judgment more than anybody's at Edge or Gamespot or really anywhere except here and Old Man Murray's

Re: Yahtzee wrong about Oblivion?

This guy has pretty good taste. I've watched like 5 reviews now and I agree with pretty much all of them...Painkiller, GTA 4, Haze, Mass Effect, Condemned 2, everything he throws out in...

Re: Yahtzee wrong about Oblivion?

First I've seen of this guy, but somehow I get the sense that being fair and balanced is not his number one priority. This is hardly all bad IMO; it's very hard to find the sweet spot between being...

Re: The top 10 Xbox games according to me

Yeah Boy, Painkiller would be a stretch even for me. Although to me the high mark of (fairly) straightforward shooters was Serious Sam, so it's more because it doesn't live up to that than that it...

Re: WoW-playing Legislative Candidate Talks About Her Level 70 Orc Hunter

That's probably true, seeing how the gamer demographic still skews pretty young in the grand scheme of things. I wonder though whether gamers will continue to skew liberal as time goes on. There are...

Re: The top 10 Xbox games according to me

I am pretty sure Call of Cthulhu was never released on any other consoles. PC, yes.

Phantom Dust I just kinda threw out there -- I haven't actually spent much time with it. Advent Rising would...

Re: Review Bribery?

It's corrupt but what do you expect? On the PR side at least, the corruption is built into the job description. If PR doesn't throw these junkets for the reviewers, along with doing everything else...

Re: Who else is excited for a Formula 1 game from Codemasters?

Hmm. Well, whatever butters your bread. Do you play a lot of racing games/are you good at any? I grant the TOCA games aren't as accessible as say Need for Speed or PGR, but I do think they're easier...

Re: WoW-playing Legislative Candidate Talks About Her Level 70 Orc Hunter

I don't think playing WoW is wrong, I just don't think it's the kind of hobby I want the people who run my country to have. Fishing is not the kind of hobby I want them to have either. I want them to...

Re: The top 10 Xbox games according to me

Hard to argue too much with most of the games on that list, although I've never played Tork and my only experience with Arx Fatalis is playing the PC demo.

Chronicles of Riddick is the easiest...

Who else is excited for a Formula 1 game from Codemasters?

I apologize if this is old news to many, but I just came across an interview with the CEO of Codemasters on the Formula 1 website, http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews/2008/5/7859.html,
talking...
