Re: My second game: "The Perfect Color"

Actually, I like that you can win with unimpressive colors. It takes longer, and when you finally get to the end, after much tedium, the meaning of the ending is totally reversed. When it says "Look...

Re: Flower Power

I wish this would come to Wii. I'm so envious of anyone who gets to play it, because it looks brilliant.

Re: My second game: "The Perfect Color"

I'm going to have to disagree that you didn't make progress. As you were playing you might have only seen the tedium of throwing colors in one by one, but the fact that you had four boxes strong...

Re: My second game: "The Perfect Color"

Okay, so neither of you has won yet. You need to make a lot of people very happy to win. You may have noticed that the more people you make happy, the more it zooms out. When you're seeing the whole...

Re: My second game: "The Perfect Color"

Doesn't anyone have an opinion about this? Love it? Hate it? Confused by it?

Re: Next Generation Consoles

The open-source idea is interesting. The trouble is, if one company lets their games be played on any system, the other company won't. So suddenly there'll be a system that can play all games and a...

My second game: "The Perfect Color"

http://www.thebuckmans.com/Mory/Perfect.exe

(It's for Windows.)

You may or may not remember my first game, "Smilie". That I made on my own, and it was a minute long. This time I've got a very...

Re: How well-learned does a critic need be?

Oh boy.

Okay, here's the problem with that. The boundaries between kinds of games (and between games and other art forms) are really fuzzy. Walking back and forth over those borders isn't just...

Re: How well-learned does a critic need be?

Ideally, a game critic should be knowledgeable about absolutely every field which the game he's reviewing might draw upon. He should be familiar with the history of fighting games, the history of...

Re: Why I don't love Portal

Not necessarily- different kinds of puzzles challenge the mind in different ways. For instance, I found Myst to be really simple but most adventure games' puzzles to be impossible. Some people I've...

Re: Why I don't love Portal

Interesting. I do see how that might seem unintuitive, though I never considered it before. I wonder if the game would be easier to play with 3D glasses? (Theoretically.)

Re: Why I don't love Portal

Edit:I'd never heard of GunValkyrie, so I looked it up. It seems that's an action game, so a comparison isn't valid. The controls of an action game don't serve the same purpose as the controls of a...

Re: Why I don't love Portal

I don't see how Super Mario 64 is an example of "simple controls"- it was extremely fun to move Mario around with those triple jumps and back flips and long jumps and ground pounds and flying caps,...

Why I don't love Portal

When I mentioned Portal in my question to the podcast, I was a bit surprised to hear that the Gamecritics guys (I'm unsure whether to refer to you in the second or third person.) didn't see where I...

Re: GameCritics.com Podcast Episode 1

There's one gaming moment I'd like to share: the only time a game has ever made me feel genuine guilt. I thought of this as I was listening to your podcast, because you were sticking in examples like...

Re: Name Our Podcast Contest

Yeah, I guess that's it. It wasn't any more prominent before, now that I think of it. I'm just not used to searching the top of a page for the word "discussion", as I do the word "forum". I'm sure...

Re: Post Podcast Mailbag Questions here

I have two interrelated questions. Do you prefer a game to do only one thing for its duration, like Art Style: Orbient, or that it aim to do everything in small amounts (minigames, characters,...

Well, I don't have examples. That's why I felt I didn't really understand what your comments meant in practice. I know the podcast is new, but the intentions you seem to have are not. So I was...

Re: Podcast Impressions

I'm impressed by the enthusiasm on display here- I had no idea GameCritics had such lofty ambitions.

I find the format a bit strange- when one person is talking, no one dares challenge him or even...

The link to the forums from the main page doesn't stand out. If I weren't specifically looking for the way in to the forums, I might have missed it. I guess you're trying to phase out the forums in...

Re: Needing more storage space on Wii to play Art Style: Orbient

I hear you, the loading screen is an inconvenience. But don't exaggerate the problem. Having to wait five minutes to re-download something is a pain, yes. But it's not such a big deal.

Re: Needing more storage space on Wii to play Art Style: Orbient

I don't understand what the problem is. You can re-download anything you buy, so deleting stuff isn't losing it. Unless you're playing a dozen games at once, I don't see how you can run out of space.

In the script, once you start chasing Smilie around there's no way he's not going to stomp on you. But when I saw what Smilie looked like shaking and twitching, I figured some people who had been...

Re: I finished my first game.

It could be you got to that ending, but didn't realize he liked you. He finds it amusing if you play the whole repeating-each-other's movements thing. But not everyone understands what he's doing...
