Re: What's the worst game you've ever beaten?

The Matrix: Path of Neo. Broken, buggy, with some stupendously bad idea levels. But it was also pretty short, and when it was working right it was reasonably fun. And I had to see what this...

Re: CoD4: Is this what the world is coming to?

I agree that $50 is a bit much for 5 hours worth of singleplayer (even hours as awesome as Call of Duty 4 delivers), but a) remember that it includes a very highly rated multiplayer mode as well -...

Re: PSP Recommendations

Jeanne D'Arc launched at $30. I'm sure you can find it cheaper now if you go used.

I really can't say enough good things about Metal Gear Acid 2. The first one was sufficiently engaging to keep me...

Re: Chibi-Robo Park Patrol

yep. Can't even get it through Gamefly - they say it's not available for rental due to a sales exclusivity agreement.

Chibi-Robo Park Patrol

I adore the Gamecube Chibi-Robo, and the prospect of a DS sequel was music to my ears. It's out now, and reviews seem actually more positive than for the original (though admittedly, it's the sort of...

Re: Odin Sphere

I think they're both probably best played in small doses. Odin Sphere's game systems are interesting in theory but with the combat so shallow and all the depth in the inventory management...

And...

Re: Why would anyone care what the big review sites say anymore?

Okay, look, I love the concept of user-submitted reviews, but if you think they're consistently better written than the professional reviews, you're either on some sort of powerful drugs or you're...

Re: Escape From Bug Island. Wow.

Why, oh why, would they bother localizing something like that when they have many, many years of great games they've never brought to the US that they could put out, either on Gamecube or for Virtual...

Re: Escape From Bug Island. Wow.

That sounds suspiciously like a US version of "Necronesia" or somesuch, which the 1UP guys played on an episode of their "watch us play bad videogames and laugh at them" video podcast, Broken Pixels.

Re: Gaming Gourmet

I've been known to eat Target's excellent Archer Farms tortilla chips or wasabi peas while at my computer. I don't eat anything while console gaming because I do it from my bed, and who wants to...

Re: Games that everyone thinks sucks, but you think they were OK

The Matrix: Path of Neo. Enter the Matrix was a trainwreck, but despite inheriting several of that game's more striking flaws, Path of Neo was a lot more fun. Okay, so the gunplay was fundamentally...

Re: Bioshock Demo Now Available on Xbox Live

System Shock 1 is available for the Mac (though it's, like, System 7 or something and may be difficult to run.). System Shock 2 I don't think ever made it over.

Re: Fallout 3 and Bethesda match made in heaven

The second Fallout didn't require any knowledge of the original game's backstory (I should know, I played them in reverse order.), though there were nods to the previous game.

Since a different...

Re: So what is good videogame storytelling?

I think the first step for most companies would be to hire actual professional writers. Preferably ones with some experience with visual media, because although writing for a videogame still isn't...

I do use those. Although the forum activity needs to be cleaned up a bit. Right now it tracks posts in the moderator forum, which might maybe be useful for moderators but it is not for the average...

Re: Flaws in Videogame (part 2)

Split-screen co-op. I love co-op to bits, and another pet-peeve is when a game features multiple characters acting in real time but never allows you to assign control of those other characters to an...

Re: iPhone and Wii reveal how “different” translates to “better”

I'm torn here. On the one hand, I do think a fair amount of the popularity of the iPod and now iPhone is aesthetics and design rather than actual functionality. The iPhone looks fucking fantastic,...

Re: Sony: We're cutting the PS3 price.... or not!

Based on what I've seen of the PS3's games so far, I'd much rather have my 12%, thank you. ;P

Re: EA Chief says games need more innovation

Mm. I don't know. I think that sports franchises especially push it with just how carbon copy their sequels are, but I don't really want very much change in my sequels. If I liked the game in the...

Re: Sony: We're cutting the PS3 price.... or not!

Yeah, no kidding. That seems to be the only thing they're adding, and I don't find 80 gigs any more compelling than 60 gigs, certainly not at the same $600 that's been consistently too much for me...

Re: Flaws in videogame

I didn't mind the autopilot in cities, but yes, Steambot Chronicles' controls were not so much awful in the traditional sense as way more complicated than they needed to be. I mean, I suppose they...

Re: Flaws in videogame

And, for what it's worth, I don't consider a lack of replay incentives to be a flaw, at all. I welcome it wholeheartedly. Because with all the gaming out there to be done even if I didn't have...

Re: Safari for Windows = Bad things for Apple

I've never had a problem with my PC I couldn't fix sooner or later. I just prefer not having problems in the first place, which has been my Mac experience. It really is partly due to the way the OS...

Re: Beauty in Tragedy

It's certainly not the only such game. Its predecessor, for example, has a lot more such content.

I'd have to say Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. Okay, so there's not a lot of genuine...
