Insomniac Games

Sunset Overdrive Second Opinion

Tony Hawk's Saint's Row

Sunset Overdrive

HIGH The robo-dog mission hints at classic Insomniac design.

LOW Finding yet another generic NPC who's going to send me on an endless parade of sidequests.

WTF Why break the fourth wall to make fun of videogame tropes just to turn around and use the same tropes in your game?

Sunset Overdrive Review

High Caffeine Content

HIGH Getting from one end of the city to the other without touching the ground.

LOW Tired references to Reddit, NeoGAF, and everything else culture-relevant.

WTF The villain sounds identical to Monokuma from Danganronpa.

I've got a bone to pick with Insomniac.

At E3 2011, as part of the Electronic Arts press conference, Insomniac Games announced Overstrike—a campy, over-the-top cooperative shooter. On the strength of Matt Kaplan's review, I decided to grab Resistance 3. Kaplan didn't steer me wrong. Alongside solid gameplay, Resistance 3 delivers a compelling story about a man's journey through an interesting post-apocalyptic landscape. Like many other recent games, however, Resistance 3 flubs the ending, betraying its own tightly-crafted atmosphere.

Resistance 3 Review

Simply Irresistible

HIGH The wonderfully memorable campaign.

LOW A few cramped multiplayer maps.

WTF The appearance of the standard automatic rifle so late in the game.
