It's not often that you get to play a part—however small—in the development or marketing of a game. BioWare is giving fans such an opportunity. Illustrating one of the ways social networks are actually useful, BioWare has launched a promotion where fans can vote via Facebook, on the "default female Shepard" that will be used in Mass Effect 3. Fans get to chose from six different looks—actually it's just different faces while the bodies remain the same—and you vote by liking the image that you want to see win.
Not surprisingly, the blond Shepard is in the lead with the non-traditional female characters trailing far behind. Not that I am complaining. If that is what the fans are voting for then so be it. It would be nice to see some variety in the characters in videogames these days and if you are like me you are voting for Shepard 4 or Shepard 5.

You didn't think the choice
You didn't think the choice was hollow, given that every face is obviously that of a white woman (regardless of skin pigment) or that every body is that of a super-model/pornstar?
I look at the first KotOR and I think, "Well, they have every female look amazing because they didn't have the resources for fatties. Even Mission looked great as a teenager, because there isn't the computer power in these game to have more realistic diversity. They could have 1 female form, and they decided that it ought to look good."
Flash forward - still the same boob and ass factory pumping out these fembots. I'm a guy, and these picture-perfect female characters are starting to make ME feel inadequate.
