Download impressions on EchoChrome, Penny Arcade Adventures and FFCC: My Life As a King

First, I downloaded EchoChrome on the PS3. I've been eagerly awaiting this title for quite awhile since I'm a big fan of games with minimalist aesthetics and the demo I saw a few months ago looked absolutely fascinating.

Moving to Seattle

Next week I'll be leaving the Portland area and moving to Seattle. With the demands of looking for jobs, going to interviews, finding a place to live, and organizing the move, I haven't had much time for videogames. Nevertheless, I thought I would take a moment to remind myself of how cool it is to be moving to one of the best videogame cities in the world.

The top 10 Xbox games according to me

Read blog postI consider the big black beast to be a truly "dead" system—there sure aren't any more games coming down the pipe for it, and I've had ample opportunity to track down and try every game for the system that caught my eye. My Xbox has been packed up and in storage for months, and I'm feeling pretty good about calling this my definitive list.

My wife and modern classics (shameless gushing)

Read blog entryOne of the things I love best about my wife is the fact that not only does she play games, she is a gamer. In my previous relationships, video games were always a source of irritation with my partners at the time. After leaving those situations behind, I was bound and determined to find a woman who loved to play games, or at the very least, did not take issue with the fact that I do.

Cel-shaded visual design in videogames

Games that use a cel-shaded style, such as Wind Waker, Killer7, and Okami, tend to look more visually coherent and artistically whole than their realism-focused brethren. Gears of War looks absolutely amazing today. But someday it will probably look more dated than Okami.

Wii Fit training log – Day 2: Play time

I normally try to do spread out 40 plus minutes of power walking everyday for cardio, but since I had an intense full-body workout in my home gym yesterday (with no rest time between sets), I figured I'd take it easy on my rest day. Without any strenuous activity planned, I thought this would be a good time to test out of the Wii Fit balance games.

Grand Theft Annulment

Read blog post Grand Theft AnnulmentSo, after two days of playing, what’s my take on it? I’m not at all impressed.

It’s not that the game is terrible because it’s not, but it’s certainly not deserving of all the accolades and perfect scores. Granted, I’m still very early on and have not yet completed the single player portion, but based on what I’ve seen so far… I don’t think I actually will. How's that for a ringing endorsement?

The bizarre and hazardous nature of Boom Blox

There's no rule that says Stephen Spielberg shouldn't be allowed to make a Jenga-like videogame. It just feels so completely out of left field and so totally unrelated and uninformed by all of the things that make Spielberg who he is. It'd be like if Spielberg suddenly decided to team up with Nike and create a new running shoe and that after the shoe finally came out it just turned out to be, well, a pretty good running shoe.

Wii Fit training log – Day 1: Fitting the Wii Fit into my life

Prior to purchasing the Wii Fit Balance Board, my health had been on the decline for years. After getting married, having a child, and buying a home in New Jersey, I stopped exercising due to a perceived lack of time and at the age of 32, I thought physically my best days were behind me.
